Reflections on the many aspects of The Legend of Zelda

By Linxhot

Shigeru Miyamoto began creating The Legend of Zelda series approximately twenty years ago and has made one of the best videogame franchises in history. That is all well and good, but there are many questions still unanswered and at times it feels like the fans are left in the dark. I am merely trying to shed some light on a few areas that have been unanswered and I insert what I believe (so far) are the answers.

One topic that is always highly disputed is Link and Zelda or a Link and Malon possible romance. Personally, I’m a Zelinker over a Malinker. From day one, I have believed that they were meant to be. There is so much evidence in the games. Zelda had tears in her eyes when she had to send Link back at the end of the Ocarina of Time. They have always had a funky bond in the games, and well, that bond is just a little more than friendly. No offense to the Malinker population, but they just don’t have what Zelda and Link have. I like Malon, actually, I like her a lot, but I just don’t think that she and Link are meant to be.

There are some people out there that think that Link and Zelda are brother and sister. I hate to burst your bubble, but Shigeru Miyamoto himself denied that one. Also, Miyamoto probably wouldn’t have Link and Zelda be brother and sister. For example, at the end of The Adventure of Link they held hands and the curtains came down and suddenly they moved close to each other, as if in a kiss or embrace. Brothers and sisters (unless they are really sick and wrong) do not do that.

The timeline of all the Zelda games is so out of whack, I won’t even risk touching all of it on a school night. I just know that the Ocarina of Time after Ganondorf said, “Curse you Zelda! Curse you Sages! Curse you Link! When this seal is broken, that is when I will exterminate your descendants.” That left an entire new timeline to be fulfilled, which is where the Windwaker picks up. But, before we can have the Windwaker we have Majora’s Mask that picks up at the end of the Ocarina of Time. After Navi left, Link traveled around trying to find her. In the end, we end up picking up Tatl and Tael instead of Navi and Link never keeps a permanent fairy. The new game coming out in 2005 is supposedly a Windwaker sequel, but at this point, I won’t put my money on that. Sure, it’s possible. The King of Hyrule wished on the Triforce to give them a hope for the future, but does that mean that they all live in a new land? None of the screen shots had an ocean, but they all sailed away saying that the wind would guide them to a new land. THEIR LAND. Only time will tell if this will be it.
