Child of Destiny

Part 1: The Capture

The young girl gasped and looked around. There was nothing but the sound of the shower water running. She was sure she had heard something. She had been hearing someone follow her for days.

"Maybe I'm being stalked or something." She thought. "Or maybe I've just been watching Scream too much." She slipped of her towel and went in the shower.

She was washing her hair when suddenly she froze. There was a shadow against the shower curtain. She was too afraid to move. The normally brave red headed and tanned skinned girl was frozen with terror. Her foster parents were out at a party and she was alone.

Gilane - that was her name - slowly moved towards the shower curtain, reaching for it with one hand, and the towel with the other.

She grabbed the towel and ripped the curtain across, ready to run... then froze.

A huge man with red hair stood in front of her. He looked fairly old, and he was... green. He was talking to her.

"I said I would get revenge, and now is the time." He said. "And I will get it through you. Come my daughter, you have much training ahead." He held out his hand and a bright blue-white portal appeared behind.

"WHAT? I'm not going with you, you - you green FREAK!" She screamed, then ran. Gilane was down the hall and in the kitchen when suddenly he was in front of her.

Gilane backed up, but the huge man was there, too. He grabbed her, and dragged her screaming through the portal.

***

A pink light flashed and A young man and woman was there. The woman looked at the now fading portal and sighed.

"We're too late, Link."

"No Zelda. We are going to get that kid." And Link dived through.

"Oh dear." Sighed Zelda, and faded away.

***

In the valley of the Gerudoes, Gilane and Nabooru sat talking.

"Well, since Gannondorf's broken free from the sacred realm, that would technically mean he's more powerful than me" Nabooru explained. "So I pretty much have to do whatever he want's. And I'm supposed to train you to kill Link."

"Who's Link?" Asked Gilane, now decked out in gerudo clothes.

"A real cutie. He's probably the nicest man in the world, and he and Zelda hurt your father last time."

"I don't want to kill anyone!" Gilane yelled.

"Don't worry, Gil." Nabooru told her. "You’re looking at the best thief in the land. I'll get you out. Tonight."

***

Immediately after Nabooru said these words, an orange light surrounded her. Then she disappeared.

"Wha-" Gilane gasped. "Where'd she go? Oh Jeez..."

"Gilane!" A call came from outside.

"Oh, Lord, not again." She muttered.

Gannon strode in, followed by a beautiful young Gerudo. Not much older than Gilane herself.

"It's time for a trip to the training grounds." Said Gannon. "Kimbawa will be your guide." He looked around. "Where is Nabooru?"

"She... had to... do something." Gilane said lamely.

Gannon shrugged and walked away.

Kimbawa looked at the shivering young girl. Gerudo? She thought. Try a lamb.

"Come on" She sighed.

***

While this was happening, Nabooru was in the chamber of the sages. All were there... and Zelda!

"What took you so long?" Demanded Ruto. "I for one don't plan on staying here all day!"

"What's going on, Zelda?" Nabooru asked.

"It's Link!" She burst out. "I can't find him anywhere!"

"WHAT?!"

"We were after that girl... you know.. The one! And Gannon came! He dragged the child screaming into the portal, and Link dived after them. I can’t find him!"

Saria was shocked. Oh no! She thought. If Link's gone... she shuddered.

"I'll check the Valley." Nabooru said. "Meanwhile, we have to get the kid out. I told her to be ready tonight!"

"I will meet the child on the bridge." Impa said quietly. "Midnight."

And she disappeared.

"Ok. Midnight." And the others left too.

***

Gilane was tired. She lay on the ground outside the training centre panting. Kimbawa shook her head.

"Be TOUGH girl. It was only a Stalfos."

"Only? Only?? That thing nearly KILLED me!"

Why me? asked Kimbawa as she stalked off.

Nabooru was worried. She had searched everywhere. Link was no where. But what if... She ran to the Haunted Wasteland.

"Link? Are you down there?" Nabooru called. No answer. She jumped down into the stone hut thing in the desert. No one. She sighed, and heard a wolf howl.

Mignight...

"Oh, Din!" She swore, and raced back to the Fortress.

"Ok kid, this is where I leave you.” Nabooru whispered. “Impa will be here soon. I’ll see you again someday. Good luck.”

“Who’s Impa...” Started Gilane. But Nabooru was already gone.

Gilane shivered. She was stuck in a strange world with strange people, and a crazy green guy who said he was her father. “Oh, I wanna go home!” She huffed.

***

Suddenly, she heard a noise. A huge woman fell from the sky.

“AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!” Gilane screamed.

“Quiet, child. I am Impa. Do you want to alert the guards?” The big woman said.

“I- I- I-” Gilane stuttered.

“WHAT’S GOING ON?” Came a female voice. Suddenly Kimbawa came around the corner holding a spear.

“Gilane? What the-”

“Please don’t tell Gannon, Kim!” Gilane cried.

“Well... I could get in a lot of trouble...”

“PLEASE?”

“Oh, all right.” Kimbawa finally said. “But hurry!”

***

“What’s happening?” Came the voice of Gannondorf.

“Hold on, kid.” said Impa and dived head first; holding onto Gilane; of the bridge.

Gilane screamed all the way down, but before they hit the water, they disappeared.

***

Where am I? Thought Link. He was in a dark place. He was in the desert. Then he was in a room. He saw a light, then he heard a voice.

“Link? Are you down there?” A pause.

Then he saw Nabooru. She jumped into the room.

“Nabooru!” He yelled.

She seemed to remember something, and rushed out the door. Link tried to follow, but he was stuck. I’m was in the wall, he realised.

Gannondorf appeared in front of him.

“Well, well, well.” He smirked. “Couldn’t get the attention of your friend?”

“What do you want?” Link asked.

“Revenge.” He answered. “Now, I am not an uncivilised man. I will allow you a chance to escape. If you can call your little sage friends to come find you, I will let you go. But only if they can beat me.”

“Fine by me.” Link answered, glaring at the giant creature who had killed his mother, all those years ago.

“Oh, damn!” said Link. When Gannon had said find he thought he had meant hidden in the fortress. Link could get out of anywhere in there.

But here he was. In the giant pyramid in the wasteland, surrounded by hundreds of sleeping monsters. With no weapons.

***

“Um... where am I?” Asked Gilane. Looking around at the dark place, with the greenish grey river running through it.

“The shadow temple.” Replied Impa.

“Oh. Why?”

“Because no one comes to the graveyard, so you’ll be fairly safe.”

“The Graveyard?” Gilane screeched.

“I know. Tacky isn’t it?” said a new voice.

Gilane looked around. She saw the strange owner of the voice. It was a pretty blue creature with fins everywhere.

“I am Princess Ruto, princess of the Zora’s.” Ruto offered.

“Oh. I’m Gilane... your Highness.” Gilane answered, trying to bow.

“Now that’s what I like. Some respect!”

“Oh, Ruto. Stop showing off.” Said a lovely teenager girl with green hair, coming into the room.

“Call me Ruto,” Ruto grinned. “So what did you call me for?” She asked Impa.

“The child needs swimming instructions.” Impa replied. “You know, Long shot, attacks, Iron boots.”

“Oh, uh well you don’t have any water.” Ruto said quickly.

Impa looked at the river.

“No! NO! I will not swim in the river of the dead.”

“Oh you’ll be fine.” And that was the end of it.

***

Saria looked around as she walked. What a creepy temple. She thought. She walked through a door and walked through some twists in the passage, and realised how different it was from her own temple, and how sorry she felt for Impa. She has to live here, with the dead, thought Saria, as she passed a Zombie. She stopped suddenly, and a sharp blade came down where she was about to step. The song was what caused her to stop.

Her song. Their song.

“Link” He heard her ask asked.

“You should be more careful where you step.” He replied quietly, grinning. He knew this would work.

“Idiot” Saria giggled. “Where are you? Zelda’s almost hysterical, and I’m worried!”

“Well, ah. You know how I told you about that pyramid in the desert that I can’t get to?”

“Yes...”

“Well I’m there.”

***

“He’s where?” Cried Zelda. “We have to get him!” She began to fade.

“Zelda, no!” Yelled Nabooru.

“She is right, Zelda.” Said Rauru quietly. “He is surrounded by monsters, and is unarmed.”

“We must make strategy” said Darunia.

“I agree.” Said Saria. “If we barge in he’ll be killed. Now, first we find out how to get there, then we explore the pyramid for the way in. Then we...” She stopped.

“What are you all looking at?

“Um, Saria.” Said Nabooru quietly. “Where did all this come from?”

“Huh?”

“She means your normally a shy little thing, and now you’re a war general. Spill!” Ruto explained”

“Ruto, my best friend is in trouble, and I want to help him. Especially now that I am allowed to leave the forest.”

Gilane sat watching

“I still don’t know why you gave up immortality!” Said Ruto.

“I wanted to grow up.” Replied Saria.

“But a Hyian...”

“It was the only way.”

“Let’s get back to business, people.” Intervened Rauru.

“All right. What we do is this...” Said Saria
