The Destiny of a Child by
Wizardess Karin
Prologue:
A Child in the Moonlight
One
dark May's eve, all the houses were dark in the hidden village. All except one. The full moon shined over the lake. It was in there that a child was being born. The mother's other 2 children stood outside. "Do you think it will be a boy or a girl?" The girl asked. "I don't know, Andrea. Only the goddesses can decide." The boy, Valen said. "I hope it's a girl." Andrea said to him. "Look, a halo around the moon. It's beautiful." Valen told her, pointing up to the velvety black sky speckled with stars.
A midwife walked out of the house and up to the children. "Well?" Andrea asked excitedly. It glistened off her black hair, and her brown eyes sparkled. "It's a girl." The woman said. Valen came up, his brown hair was tangled and his dark eyes looked strange. "Really, a girl? That's great!" Andrea said. She almost jumped and hugged Valen, she was so happy.
"You can come inside now, children." The midwife said smiling. Andrea dashed into the small house. Her mother, Dawn, sat up in the bed and smiled at her. Then Andrea walked beside the bed. "Mom, can I hold her?" She asked. Her mother didn't reply, but she handed the child to Andrea. "What's her name?" She asked. "She doesn't have a name yet. I thought you may like to name her, since you prayed for a girl." Dawn said. Andrea thought for a moment while staring at her new sister. "How about Aria? It's the word for beauty and spirit." She finally said. "That's a perfect name." Dawn said, beaming. Valen walked into the room and stared at the child. "Mother, are you feeling okay?" He asked. "Yes. Would you like to meet Aria?"
Chapter 1: Trouble
There
are many tales the Sheikah people, my people, have told. But the most famous has to be of the legendary Hero of Time. Also about the fabled starseeker. We know the starseeker never existed, though. Told to the children at a young age, these tales have stayed with us for our whole lives, thus far. The tale of the Hero of Time came from a mysterious man of our people when he came to our hidden village. He identified himself only as Sheik, and after that he vanished. Not even a goodbye. Many people have heard the tale, I'm sure, so I'm not going to bother. I'm the least talented in my family for weaving fables into stories. This is a story, a portrait if you may, of the guardians, and how a few survived...
I was about 8 or 9 years old, and I remember it like a few days ago. It was a beautiful day. I sat on the edge of the lake, my bare feet hanging down in the water. The air smelled of honeysuckle, as it usually did. I heard someone walk up behind me and turned my head around. There was a girl, about my age, standing there. "Hi." I said. "Hi." She replied. She came and sat beside me.
"Whatcha doing?" She asked. "Nothing. Just sitting here. Thinking." I said. "That's 3 different things. Make up your mind." "Who are you anyway?" I asked her. "I'm Malai. Who're you?" Malai asked. "I'm Aria. Nice to meet you." "Let's go." "Go where?" "I want you to see something!" I rolled my ees and she took my hand. I stood up and slowly followed her.
She dragged me along, giggling, while I complained. She finally stopped near a lake. "So we're here. Now what?" I asked. She whistled and a girl came out of a bush. "Jasmine, this is Aria. Aria, this is Jasmine." "Hi." I said. She greeted me with only a smile. I noticed something strange about her. "She isn't Sheikah." I said. Jasmine scowled at me, and I knew I was right. She had eyes that were almost red, and her magic wasn't very good, but it was a clever guise to fool a 5-year-old.
"Of course she's Sheikah." Malai said. "Malai, look closely at her. See her eyes? They're different." I said. Then I noticed her ears. They were strangely rounded off. I only knew one race that had ears like that. She was in a clever disguise, but she couldn't seem to fix her ears. "Malai, look at her ears." I said. "They're not pointy like ours." Malai looked closely and saw I was right. "Come out of that disguise stranger." I said. She began to waver, and her features twisted. Her dark hair became orange, her skin darkened, and her ears stayed the same. When it was done, we realized our mistake. We had come across a sorceress, but not only that, she was a Gerudo.
