THE LEGEND OF ZELDA --- ------ -- ----- A TREATMENT FOR A FEATURE FILM SCREENPLAY by DANIEL ALFARO BASED ON THE VIDEO GAME THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME June 5, 2000 Disclaimer: "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Hyrule and other related characters and settings belong to Nintendo. No infringement intended. The Future. The Ancient Land of Hyrule. A Barren Wasteland. Night. Another day passes on this barren wasteland whose terrain resembles closely to that of our moon. Rocky, gray, lifeless. The days here pass much like the nights dark and lonely. Nothing to marvel at it's beauty or to count its days. Various shots now of the mountains and rocky grounds. In the distance dark clouds are forming. They begin to swirl into one another creating a huge hurricane like cloud. It begins to rain but not the usual rain you see coming from normal clouds. No. The rain here looks almost as if it were raining light from the heavens. A hole begins to open in the center of the clouds. And three bursts of light, one red, another green and the third yellow, rocket through the cloud and descend onto this wasteland. These are the goddesses in which the future inhabitants would later call Din the Goddess of Power, Nayru the goddess of Wisdom and Farore the Goddess of Courage. The three goddesses circle high above the land. Din begins her descent to the ground scorching the land with flames of red light. These flames begin to seep into the rocks creating from nothing the red desert along with the sun shining high above. The goddess Nayru begins her descent toward the ground and shoots its flames of yellow light all around. Large craters in the desert are filled with water and the sky then is turned from a black starry night into a beautiful blue sky complete with clouds. Farore, the final goddess, begins to fall toward the ground and seed the land with her light. The whole terrain has changed. What once was a vast emptiness of nothing has now turned into a beautiful pasture with a forest on one side, a desert on the other and a green prairie separating the two. The goddesses again circle high above before they begin to return from whence they came. They travel up high in the sky moving faster and faster and getting closer and closer to each other before finally they collide and a loud sonic boom can be heard throughout the land. There is nothing left of them except for three glowing pyramids (each with the color of one of the goddesses) rotating in the sky: two are aligned with their bases right next to each other. The third rests on top of the other two. This is the TRIFORCE. We PAN DOWN and DISSOLVE TO a castle. Thousands of years have passed and many people now inhabit this land that is now known as Hyrule. It is now late evening and heavy rains are coming down. A small boy is running like mad towards the forest. He is being chased by a dark man on a horse. The man on the horse runs in front of the small boy blocking his path. The boy in trying to stop loses his balance and falls flat in the mud. He looks up at the Man staring down at him smiling evilly. This man is GANANDORF, King of Thieves. The boy is scared out his mind not knowing what's going to happen. The fear is unmistakable in his eyes. Ganondorf raises his horse's front legs in the air and pulls out his sword. He swings and right before it hits the boy he wakes up. That's right, it was a dream. It was all just one terrible dream... The boy is LINK, about 13 years old. He's a cute kid that a lot of the girls seem to like a lot. He hears a voice call to him from outside. It is his older sister SARIA, 16. He goes outside and we see the Kokiri Forest. It is a place inhabited by a small group of people. Their houses are made from hollowing out the inside of dead trees. They are literally "Tree Houses." We see Link coming out from one of these tree houses and meets up with his sister and the rest of the Kokiri people who have gathered in the center of town around a huge tree they worship called the Deku Tree. They gather there every morning to pay there thanks to the tree and cannot start unless everyone is there. It is a huge glorious tree with large magnificent branches and beautiful green leaves. An old woman stands in the middle of the crowd supported by her stick that she uses as a cane. She is NYDIA the Orator for the Deku Tree (or in other words: if the Deku Tree was god then she'd be considered something like the Pope). When Link arrives a young boy named Mido snickers and makes a rude comment about Link, which Saria overhears. She shoots him a look that shuts him up quickly but doesn't remove the contempt he has for Link being late all the time. The Orator begins the morning ritual in front of the Deku Tree. Nydia holds a hollow nut the size of a large coconut filled with a very distinctly blue water. She mutters a few words and the rest of the crowd repeats her. She then pours the liquid from inside the nut onto the ground before the Deku Tree. Nydia kneels to the ground as best she can and kisses the spot where she dropped the liquid then gets to her feet. The ritual is over and the crowd disperses. Link tries to sneak away but Saria catches him. She tells him that he'd better start getting up on time or else he'll be in trouble. Link apologizes and says that he had another one of his "dreams" again. "This time it was the man on the horse chasing me," he says. If she hadn't called his name and woke him up he would have been killed for sure. Saria says that if he didn't wake up then the whole town would've killed him for sure. He knows how important the morning ritual is. The Deku Tree is what gives them life and provides them protection among other things. A small group of girls walks by Link and Saria. They each say "hi" to Link. He says "hi" in return and they smile and giggle at each other as they walk by. Saria nags him about how he should go over there and talk to them. He says he doesn't want to. SARIA What are you afraid of girls? LINK (Quickly) No! I'm not afraid of anything. SARIA So why not do something about it. LINK Don't want to. SARIA Fine. Be a lonely bachelor for the rest of your life. LINK What's a bachelor? SARIA (Smiles) Get out of here you nut. He runs over to another group of Kokiri boys and begins to play with them. Saria watches him with love and then goes inside her Tree House. Link finally catches up with the group of boys. One of the boys, Virgil, begins to ask Link why he was late for the Morning ritual. Link explains himself and then Mido begins bothering him. Mido is Link's age and is considered by many of the children in the forest to be somewhat of a bully especially when towards Link. It's probably because he's jealous of Links popularity with the adults as well as some of the girls and wants in on the action as well. Mido begins calling Link names like "Mr. Sleepy Head" and "Dowser Boy". Then he gets the rest of the boys in the group to chant along with him. Link tells him to stop calling him names. "If you want me to stop then you're going to have to catch us." And with that the boys scatter and Link stands there alone staring at the grass. Inside the courtyard of Hyrule Castle PRINCESS ZELDA is seen looking through a window that looks into the King's private throne room. She is a perky little kid who is much smarter than a 13 year-old is usually given credit for. She peers through the window and sees the King talking with none other than Ganondorf the man from Link's dream. She sees them talking and what not. A voice from behind Zelda startles her and she turns around to be greeted by IMPA her faithful servant. Impa asks Zelda what she's doing spying on her father's meetings. She playfully avoids the question before Impa threatens by saying she won't carry her to bed. Zelda decides to say only if Impa will carry her to bed now. Impa agrees and picks Zelda up and rests on her on her shoulders. Again Impa asks what Zelda was doing. Zelda confesses that she wasn't spying on her father so to speak. She was spying on the man her father was talking with. "Ah, yes, Ganondorf. What about him?" Zelda says that she senses something bad about him and that she doesn't trust him. Impa agrees with her but says that until he does something the King doesn't like he'll remain in his eyes his loyal servant. Which means that they're just going to have to wait until he makes a mistake. Zelda then inquires about the Medallion of Time, which will be explained later. She wonders if this is what Ganondorf could possibly be after. Impa disagrees saying that she doesn't think Ganondorf nor anybody outside of the Royal Family for that matter would know about that. Finally, Zelda agrees but is not convinced and still feels a little uneasy. Impa carries Zelda the rest of the way to her room before putting her in bed. That same night Impa talks with the King telling him of her and Zelda's doubts about Ganondorf. The King understands her feelings because of there past relations with the Gerudo people. But he feels that Ganondorf is a man to be trusted. Knowing the King won't budge from his viewpoint she decides to try a different approach. She asks of him to at least take caution in case someone does try to steal the Medallion. The King agrees that it probably is the best idea to keep the Medallion safe from any possible threat. So he decides to put Impa in charge of protecting the Medallion. In the Kokiri forest Saria is also putting Link to bed. He complains saying he's not tired and wants her to tell him a story. "About what?" she asks. He asks to hear about his mother. Saria says that she was only four when she died and didn't know her too well. But what she does remember is that she was beautiful but lonely most of the time. When she died she made Saria promise to her that she and the rest of the village take care of Link and make sure no harm came to him. That's all Saria really knew about their mother. The people who knew her better are all dead and gone know except that is for the Orator, Nydia. After a few moments of silence Saria says he's stalled long enough and that he should really get some sleep if he's going to wake up on time for the morning ritual the next day. Saria leaves him alone and soon he is a sleep and dreaming again. Various SHOTS of Zelda in the courtyard, of Ganondorf on his steed, of Link walking up to the Triforce as it rotates in the air, of a sword stuck half way into a carved stone with the Triforce imprinted on the front of it. Link wakes up from his dream in a cold sweat. Outside the Kokiri people have gathered around the Deku Tree awaiting Link's arrival. Mido begins to get agitated and asks how long they have to wait. Nydia responds with "as long as we have too." MIDO But there's no reason we have too. He's not even a real Kokiri. He's just some stupid kid that has no respect for the Deku Tree. Suddenly everyone who has had their attention on Mido turns their attention to Link who has been standing behind him the whole time. Mido turns around and sees Link standing there with an astonished look on his face. Mido is speechless and after he sees the hurtful look on Link's face his eyes begin to wonder. Link looks over to Saria hoping to see in her face that what Mido said was just something he said in anger. After studying her face he knows that what Mido said is the truth. He runs off into a secluded part of the forest crying. Saria looks over to Mido who looks away in shame. She then runs after Link calling his name. The forest is full of thick trees with a light fog barely covering the ground. It is a place in which if you went to deep you could easily misplace yourself. The Kokiri call this place the Lost Woods. Saria runs into the Lost Woods desperately searching for Link. He is nowhere in sight. When she calls his name she gets no answer. As she continues deeper into the forest calling his name she becomes aware of a soft crying in the distance. She tries to follow the sound but comes up with nothing. Then she decides to try and talk to him. SARIA Link? Link? Answer me please. LINK (O.S.) Go away! SARIA Please Link. We have to talk. LINK (O.S.) I don't want to talk to you. You're a liar! SARIA Oh, please, Link, you have to understand - LINK (O.S.) No! You lied to me! Everything you've said about mom, about you, about me, was a lie! Leave me alone! SARIA Oh Link. I've wanted to tell you for so long. I just never knew how. LINK (O.S.) You never met my mother. Why did you say you met her if you never did? SARIA I did, Link. I did. And everything I said about her last night was true. She gave you to me and I did the best I could in making sure you grew up the way she wanted you too. Safe and out of harms way. Link, I love you. You're my brother - LINK (O.S.) I'm not you're brother! SARIA Yes you are! You will always be my brother. And I will always think of you that way because I love you too much not to. There is a short silence as Saria continues to look around the forest. Then Link steps out from behind a tree. She takes a step towards him but moves back. LINK How many people knew? Before Mido said what he said today. SARIA Just the elders. I don't know how Mido found out. I am so sorry Link. I never meant for you to find out this way. Damn Mido! I can just kill him. I mean really kill him. LINK It's not his fault. It's not your fault either. He walks up to her and hugs her close. She in turn hugs him back. Soon after Saria and Link are seen walking out of the Lost Woods. The town people, who have been waiting patiently outside the entrance, walk up to them. Then one of the older Kokiri pushes Mido forward so he's face to face with Link. After a few seconds of hesitation Mido finally apologizes to Link who in return accepts his apology and they shake hands. Later that night Saria and Link are in their Tree House cleaning up and getting ready for bed when Link asks for Saria to tell him who he really is and where he really came from. She admits that she was too young to remember why it was the his mother came here in the first place and confesses that she is probably the wrong person to ask that sort of question. When he inquires further on who he could ask she tells him that he should talk to Nydia for she is the oldest of everyone of all the Kokiri and after all she is the Orator. The next day after the morning ritual Saria and Link ask Nydia if they could speak in private with her. She agrees and they walk over to her tree house where she begins working on some of the herbs for the next morning ritual. Link begins to ask his questions about how he got there and who is mother really was. Nydia asks if he this is what he really wants to hear. "I think I ought to have some idea of who she was," says Link. "Oh, it goes much deeper than that Link." She sits down and tells him the story of his arrival. Fourteen years ago there was a civil war going on known as the Imprisoning War. The war was between two of Hyrules people, the Hylians who lived in the prairies and lead farming lives and the Gerudo Desert clansmen also known as the Gerudo Thieves who lived in the desert. The Kokiri never got involved with the Civil War because the Forest provided a safe haven for them and if they ever left they would die. Anyway, during the last years a Hylian woman stumbled into the forest. She said that her husband and two children had been murdered and that she had just barely escaped with her life. She was at the time very much with child and the Kokiri felt that for her as well as for her unborn child's sake that they should remain here until the war ended. A few months later she gave birth to a baby boy whom she named Link. Two days later she would die from complications in childbirth. Before she did though she entrusted Saria who at the time was only three and her family with her child. After she died Nydia took the baby Link and presented him to the Deku Tree. The Deku Tree as well as Nydia knew that the boy was important to the future to all who lived in Hyrule. An ancient text known as the Book of Mudora spoke of a child born in a village not of his own who would save the people from the misuse of an ancient relic known as the Triforce. The Deku Tree as well as Nydia believed that Link was this boy. After Nydia finishes her story both Saria and Link have astonished looks on their faces. Then Links face changes to fear. NYDIA You have to understand, Link, you are chosen to be the hero of Hyrule. LINK (Pause) But what if I don't want it? I don't want to die. I'm scared. NYDIA I know you are Link. But there are some things in life that cannot be denied... LINK But I don't want it! I don't want to leave the forest. This is my home. I may not be a real Kokiri but this is all I know. NYDIA Link... SARIA Maybe we'd better go Link. She takes Link and leads him out of the hut. Suddenly, a group of people have crowded around the Deku Tree looking at it with worried faces. Link and Saria join the group to see what's going on. A Kokori runs into Nydia's hut and tells her that something is wrong with the Deku Tree. Nydia walks out to inspect the Deku Tree and then faces the growing crowd. She tells them that the Deku Tree is dying. People become uneasy saying things like, "But without the Deku Tree how will we survive?" And "What are we going to do when our crops die out?" Nydia looks over to Link and glances up at Saria wondering what he should do. Saria cannot answer him. Instead she looks up at the Deku Tree. That night Link sits in the corner of the tree house. Saria sits next to him. She tells him that she thinks its wrong to put something so big on a scared little boy. And she also thinks its wrong for Nydia to assume that he is the one prophesized in the Book of Mudora. Link, who's been quiet the whole time, suddenly pops out with, "But this village is bigger than you and me. And if I am the one Nydia talked about then I should accept the responsibility. Right?" She smiles and kisses his forehead and makes a comment on just how smart a kid he really is. She stands and then helps Link up to his feet. She says maybe he should think about it more maybe even sleep on it. Link asks if he can sleep in her bed that night. She of course says yes. In the next few weeks we see a MONTAGE of Link being taught by the elders of the village different fighting techniques with the sword and how to use a shield and what not. Then the day finally comes when he is off to see the rest of Hyrule. He stands by the edge of the forest with the rest of the villagers as they each says their good-byes to him. Nydia wishes him luck and says that as long as he keeps courage in his heart he'll do just fine. She hands him a letter and tells him to give it to the princess in the Hyrule Castle. Mido is next. He holds a sword in his hand and tells him that his father made for it Link. "It's better and stronger than the ones you've been practicing with. Just don't screw up!" Mido's father pulls him back allowing the next and last person to say goodbye: Saria. She says she knew that he would leave the forest someday she just never wanted to believe it. She takes out a beautiful green emerald with a gold plating wrapped around it. It hangs from a necklace she made. She puts it over his neck and kisses his cheek. "So you'll always remember me." They hug lovingly and then Link faces the land ahead of him and begins walking out of the forest. We finally get our first look of what Hyrule looks like and boy is it breathtaking. A vast meadow with glorious hills and blooming trees. Link walks out of the forest and takes in the field's beauty. He then pulls out a makeshift map made by one of the Kokiri and a compass. On the map it clearly shows the forest, the desert lands, the lakebeds and the castle, which is just to the north. He begins walking in that direction. The hours pass quickly and soon nighttime is close at hand. Link who has been walking almost all day has taken shelter under a tree. In the distance we can see Hyrule Castle thinly outlined by torches planted at the roof. Link has brought a blanket with him and is using his shield as a pillow. He is about to go to bed when the howl of a coyote can be heard far off. This startles Link. He's always been afraid of the coyote's howl but always felt safe when in Kokiri. Now he is out in the Hyrule fields all alone and doesn't know what to do. He pulls out his sword and gets up to check if anything is around. He walks a few feet from the tree he was under and begins looking off into the distance. Suddenly, a SKULLKID pops out of the ground next to Link's tree. At first glance it appears almost to be a walking skeleton about the same height as Link. It begins hobbling over to Link who is still unaware of its presence. Link, seeing nothing unusual, decides that it's safe to go back to his resting place. He turns and is confronted by the Skullkid a mere two feet away. Link screams and swings his sword as a reaction to fear cutting off the head of the Skullkid. The Skullkid with its head cuts off continues to walk around aimlessly as if it were a wind-up doll with its head missing. Link decides he's seen enough. He runs over to the tree, grabs his things and makes off like a bandit in the night. After a while he finally stops for lack of air. He drops his things on the floor and drops to his knees. He holds onto the gem Saria gave him trying to find some reason to forget the whole thing and go back to the village. Unfortunately he knows he can't. Day has almost come and we view the entire prairie and see that Link is nowhere to be found. We look up and see a small figure lying up in a tree. It's Link apparently a little homesick. A cuckoo from a nearby farm lets out the morning call. Link's eyes flutter open and soon he is stretching his arms out. He forgets where he is for the moment and stretches too far causing him to fall off the branch that was supporting him. He gets up massaging the pain out of his shoulder and looks up to see the castle, much closer now then it was the night before. He was running so fast for so long that he covered half the distance to the castle in just a matter of minutes. He gathers his things and makes his way towards it. Link finally arrives at the castle gates around noon. It is morning so the drawbridge has been lowered so people can have access to the market area, which is just at the foot of the castle that looms in the background. Link walks through the archway staring up at how high it is wondering how long it took to make such a thing. He makes his way into the Market that is crowded beyond belief. Link has never seen so many people in his life. People crowding around the town square talking and living it up. People crowded around small traveling shops that were set up during the night. Link looks around in amazement. He continues through the market seeing different people, a FAT LADY talking to her little dog whom she caught misbehaving, a newly wed couple dancing in the street. Link walks up to one of the guards and asks if he can see the princess. The GUARD rolls his eyes. He's heard this song before. He tells Link that no one sees anybody from the royal family unless commissioned by the royal family themselves. But if he wants to see Princess Zelda she and her Royal Guards make a visit to the Market once a week to check up on things. LINK When's the next time she comes down? GUARD You're in luck. She should be down any minute. Soon after a trumpet can be heard and then an announcer yells out from the Castle gates to make way for Princess Zelda. A red carpet is laid out onto the pathway and soon Princess Zelda walks down the path into the market with two ROYAL GUARDS following close behind and Impa at her side. She goes up to each of the individual shop owners. They bow and kiss her hand. She asks questions like "How are things going in your shop. I trust all is well?" and "Are your enjoying your stay here in the market?" Link just stares at her as she circles the Town Square. He has never seen someone so beautiful before in his entire life. When she finally gets to Link's area she sees him and stops. Something is familiar about him. She asks his name and if they've ever met before. He kneels and keeps his eyes to the ground. He says no and then tells her where he's from. He says he needs to talk to her and that it's very important. The Royal guard makes a comment that the Princess doesn't have time to deal with petty little problems. Zelda silences him quickly. She looks down at Link and tells him to rise and follow her into the Castle. Before she leaves for good she turns around and addresses the people in the Market. She tells them to enjoy their stay in Hyrule and to have a nice day. And with that the gate closes and Zelda, Impa, Link and the Royal Guards make there way back to the castle. As soon as they get to the courtyard the Royal Guards go to each side of the entrance. Link and Zelda walk over toward the garden area. Zelda sits in a small throne in the middle of the courtyard and Impa stands by her side. She asks him what was so important that he needed to talk to her so urgently. He tells her that in the village where he comes from there is a tree called the Deku Tree that has for many years sustained the life of the villagers as well as protected them from harm. He says that if the Deku Tree dies so will the people. He was hoping that perhaps Zelda or the King perhaps could do something to help them. Link says he has a letter from Nydia, the elder of the village that she wrote for Link to give to the Princess. He hands her the letter and Zelda begins to read it. Her demeanor changes when she finishes it. She hands Impa the letter and he expression changes as well. He asks if something is wrong and she asks if he read the letter. He shakes his head no. ZELDA Do you know of a man by the name of Ganondorf? Links shakes his head no. ZELDA He is a close advisor to my father the King. He is also the leader of the Gerudo Clan. He has served loyally under my father for only a few short years but in those years he has gained strong support from many people. However, lately, I have become aware of his growing interest of the ancient literature in our libraries. They contain mostly of ancient folklore and legends including many writings of the Triforce. The Triforce is an element of unspeakable power. The power to grant the wish of any who attains it. The legend goes that if a person with a pure heart and had no evil thoughts touched the Triforce than it would lead to peace within the Scared Realm that houses the Triforce. But if one whose heart is filled with evil then the Sacred Realm would turn to a dark and hostile world. I believe that these are the true intentions of Ganondorf. She goes on to say that despite her numerous requests for the King to get rid of Ganondorf she has been unsuccessful. "It's up to us now Link." She goes on to say that despite Ganondorf's relentless searches he has been unable to find the key into opening the door to the Sacred Realm. The key consists of two parts. First, the Medallion of Time. Zelda tells Link that the Medallion of Time is hidden in a dungeon near the Kakariko village. It was entrusted to be hidden in this particular dungeon by a close friend of the Royal family that goes by the name of Nydia. Zelda felt that if she or anybody else from the royal family were to place it there then Ganondorf would surely find out and steal it. In the letter that Link gave to Zelda Nydia wrote saying that a Gerudo Clansman claiming to be working for the King said that the King had asked for this particular Medallion back. Nydia said that without a letter from the King himself she was not to disclose any information about the whereabouts of the Medallion. The Gerudo then angrily left but not without casting a curse of the Village. The second key to be acquired is the Master Sword. This can be found in the Temple of Time. The Temple of Time is what guards the Door of Time, which leads to the Sacred Realm and the Triforce. The Master Sword is something only one of noble heart can attain. Therefore, someone like Ganondorf could never pull it from the stone that it rests in. ZELDA I had a vision of a boy dressed the way you are coming to save the Land of Hyrule. It's nice to know it wasn't just a dream. The only hope of saving Hyrule is to get the Triforce before Ganondorf does. Will you help me? Link thinks for a second then asks where this medallion he's looking for is. She says that Impa will lead him to the entrance of the temple. She walks up to Link kisses his cheek and thanks him again. Impa then leads Link out of the courtyard and to the horse stables. As she readies her horse to get ready to leave she tells Link that she thinks that what he's doing is very courageous especially for a boy so young. "You must be so excited." Link gives an unenthusiastic yes and Impa sees that he's more frightened then he is excited. She asks why it is the Kokiri sent a boy to save their village. He says its because they think he's the chosen one sent to save Hyrule. "Do you think you're the chosen one, Link?" He says he doesn't know. He just doesn't want his sister to die. Impa gives him a little bit of advice. She says that he must learn to overcome his fear and accept his fate if he is to retrieve the Medallion of Time. "If it makes any difference I think the Princess believes that you're the chosen one as well. And so do I." They mount the horse and soon they are off galloping through the fields of Hyrule. Link is having a great time riding the horse. He tells Impa he's never been on a horse before. She gallops faster and then jumps over one of the fences laid out on the field. Link holds onto Impa tighter for fear of falling off but he's still having fun. Soon they are strolling on horse back through the town of Kakariko. Impa says this is the town she was born and raised in and that right now even though it's not as big as the Market Place in Hyrule castle it soon will be. Link looks around and sees that it is indeed a small village about the same as the Kokiri forest. Impa leads the horse towards the far end of the village where there is a gate being guarded by one of the guards. Impa nods to him and he begins opening the gate. The gate leads to a rocky path up a tall mountain. This is Death Mountain. Impa explains to Link that Death Mountain is sort of like a barometer for Hyrule only it doesn't measure the weather. Instead it measures the attitude of the land itself. She points to a small gathering of clouds in the shape of a halo circling the peak of the mountain. When Hyrule is in a time of peace the ring of clouds circling above the mountain are normal. Impa finally stops the horse half way up the trail right in front of the dungeon known as the Dodongo's Cavern. The dodongo was an extinct beast that used to live in this cavern. Link dismounts and walks right up to the entrance and stops unsheathing his sword and readying his shield. IMPA I trust you know the way back. And if you don't you can always ask one of the Guards. I must go back to the Castle and protect the Princess. Remember, Princess Zelda is counting on you. And with that she shimmies the horse and begins heading back down the trail. Her last words are a little encouraging as he walks into the cavern. Inside, the Dodongo's Cavern is made up mostly of hallways carved into the mountain. As Link travels through the cavern he encounters nothing for a while. He thinks to himself "if this medallion thing is so important you would think they would have guarded it better." Almost as if on cue three KEESE, which are sort of bat-like creatures, swoop down from the ceiling of one the hallways. Link doesn't notice them until they're almost on top of him. He swings at one of them with his sword hitting it. It falls to the ground in two pieces. The other two Keese fly high up to the ceiling way out Link's reach. Link looks on the ground for something to throw and finds a small pile of rocks. He grabs a few and begins throwing them in the air. He hits another Keese knocking it to the floor dead. The last Keese dodges the last rock throw at him and then does a bomber dive straight for Link. Link whips out his shield just in time to have the Keese hit it. The Keese falls to the floor flapping around like a fish out of water. Link steps on it crushing it. He continues on until he gets to a small room in which he encounters four TEKITES. These creatures are sort of like a cross between a spider that jumps and a large crab. They have four legs and when they attack leap five feet in the air and pounce on their prey. Link quickly disposes of these by rolling under them when they jump and striking from behind or by slicing there under belly when in midair. He finally gets to a round circular room with a chest behind a caged gate. Link runs up to the gate and tries to reach his arm through the cage to the chest but can only go so far. He then tries to fit his body though the bars but can't. He finds himself stuck slightly between the bars. Suddenly a STALFOS pops out of the ground behind Link who is unaware anything has changed. These are sort of like the Skullkids in that they are like walking skeletons only with much more noticeable differences. The most noticeable difference is its size. Whereas the Skullkid was about Link's height the Stalfos is about six feet tall and to a 13 year-old kid they must look at least twice as much. It also holds a strong shield in one hand and a rather large sword in the other. Link looks behind him at the huge figure that has begun to charge him Link now totally scared out of his gourd struggles with the gate he is locked between until finally he manages to free himself right before the Stalfos swings his sword. The blade hits the gate and a few sparks to jump off. Link stumbles with his sword as he holds his shield in front of him. The Stalfos again charges Link and swings his sword with full power. It hits Link's shield causing him to be thrown back a bit and land on his butt. Link quickly gets up so as not to be caught off guard. The Stalfos takes a swing with his sword and Link jumps to the side to dodge it. He then lunges his sword right into the side of the Stalfos. The Stalfos in pain jumps back. Again it approaches Link but with more caution this time. He lifts his arm up to swing but Link has already swung and hits the Stalfos's arm causing him more pain. Link takes this opportunity to kill the monster. He swings fiercely at the back of the monster hitting it. The Stalfos falls. Link makes one final swing with the sword and the Stalfos literally falls to pieces on the ground. Link rests his hands on his knees breathing in deeply. Then he hears a noise. He jumps into attack position but instead of seeing a monster he sees the gate that was once protecting the chest begin to lower. He walks up to the chest cautiously and then opens it to reveal...a key. He searches the room with his eyes and sees a door he doesn't remember seeing before. He walks up to it and tries to turn the knob. Locked. Figures. He uses the key and walks through the door. The next room looks nothing like the rest of cavern. This room has two well-formed pillars on either side of it. The walls are carved with intricate designs. At the far end of the room is an altar with the symbol of the Triforce etched onto the front of it. Floating just above the altar is the Medallion of Time. A beautifully glowing medallion with the symbol of the Triforce engraved on one side. Link walks up to it mystified and finally stops right in front of it. When he reaches out for the Medallion it begins to glow a luminous yellow. Out on Hyrule Field it is raining heavily. Link runs like a mad man through the rain using his shield as an umbrella. The clouds are heavy and dense making the afternoon sky look almost like night. He's almost at the castle when he sees something far off coming from out of the town. As it gets closer Link can recognize it as Impa's horse being rid at full gallop. He stops a few feet from the drawbridge standing at the side. Impa's horse crosses the drawbridge and on closer inspection Link can see Zelda sitting in front of Impa a scared look on her face. She looks back at Link wanting to say goodbye but can't. Link doesn't understand what's going on before Zelda and Impa have ridden off out of sight. He hears the snort of a horse behind him and turns around to see Ganondorf scanning the fields for Impa's horse. He then looks down at Link who is scared shitless but able to hide his fear better. GANONDORF You, boy, did you see a horse riding past a few seconds ago? Link takes a few steps back determined not to let his fear get the best of him. Ganondorf smiles and lets out a small evil laugh. GANONDORF Do you really think you can protect them from me? You've got guts kid. Too bad you don't have a brain to match. He raises his hand and lets out a ball of electricity. It hits Link and pushes him back a few feet. And with that Ganondorf raises his steed and is off down Hyrule Field. Link walks into the Hyrule Market Place and finds it completely empty. What has been going on when he was away? He begins searching the grounds when suddenly he hears Zelda's voice calling to him. He turns around trying to locate the voice but finds nothing. From up above a translucent figure of Zelda begins floating down from the sky until it stops right in front of Link. The image of Zelda keeps her eyes closed and mouth shut as she talks to Link telepathically. She apologizes for not being able to wait for his return but she couldn't wait any longer. Ganondorf has killed the king and threatened her life if she doesn't tell him where the Medallion is. "You have the medallion don't you?" He nods. She then says that she will lead him to the Temple of Time. Her image begins to float towards a pathway in the market. She tells him to follow the path to the temple and he'll find inside the Master Sword. "Pull it from its resting place. With the Master Sword you will be able to enter the Sacred Realm and attain the Triforce. Then you will be able to defeat Ganondorf." The image fades and Link follows the path to the Temple of Time that looks more like a church only a Triforce symbol is engraved above the door and not a cross. The Temple of Time is made of beautiful marble bricks stacked up to a high ceiling. Three windows cover the higher areas of either side of the walls. At the far end is an altar much like the one in the Dodongo's Cavern. Another Triforce symbol, this one bigger, lies on the wall behind the altar. Link walks up to the altar medallion in hand and stands on the little red carpet placed in front of it.. The medallion begins to glow again. Link holds up the medallion and then releases his grip. The medallion floats in midair then moves over to the altar and then hovers above it. Suddenly the Triforce Symbol behind the wall begins to radiate a bright yellow and then the wall below it begins to move revealing a passageway. Link walks down the short passageway into another room, the Master Sword room. This room is circular with ceilings high above the floor. In the center of the room are steps that lead to a circular platform. On the platform are three smaller circles located on the edge. In the middle, with its blade sticking into a small altar engraved with the Triforce symbol is the Master Sword. Link walks up to the sword and holds the handle with two hands and then with one strong effort Link pulls the Master Sword from it's resting place. Suddenly the platform begins to radiate a bright blue and streaks of blue light shoot up from the platform surrounding Link until we DISSOLVE TO WHITE. The whole screen is white now except for three golden pyramids that rotate in what seems to be midair. We are now in the Sacred Realm. We move closer to the Triforce and then pan around it to see Ganondorf walking towards the Triforce. Ganondorf with his eyes greedy with power walks up and extends his hand and touches the Triforce. It changes color glowing a bright red. Ganondorf laughs maniacally as his hand too begins to glow red. DISSOLVE TO a room filled with blue light. We are on the platform that was in the Temple of Time only now it hovers in midair over what looks to be a bottomless pit. This is the Chamber of Sages. A figure falls from the sky in a ray of blue light and lands right on one of the circles located on the outside of the platform. It is a young man about 19 or 20 dressed in blue and white garments. This is SHEIK. He calls to Link to wake up and that the time has come. We see Sheik through Link's POV. Sheik introduces himself and tells Link where he is. The Chamber of Sages was a place built to protect the resting place of the Triforce, the Sacred Realm, from anyone whose forces were not in balance. The Master Sword was the key to opening the Sacred Realm and attaining the Triforce. However, the Master Sword cannot be pulled from its altar by just anyone. Only one person worthy of the title Hero of Time could pull it from the altar. The Master Sword chooses who this person is and it chose Link. Yet, at the time Link pulled the Master Sword he was too young to take on the responsibility of the Hero of Time. And thus sealed his soul away in the Sacred Realm until it was time. Sheik then tells Link to look at himself. We see Link for the first time during this and see that he has aged seven years since we last saw him. The little boy whose shield was too big and sword too heavy has now grown into full adulthood. Link asks how long he's been locked away. Sheik answers by saying, "Seven years." The moment he pulled the sword from the altar it opened the door for any and all to enter into the Sacred Realm. And when Link did not retrieve the Triforce Ganondorf took the opportunity. When he did it turned the Sacred Realm into a place of evil that radiated throughout all of Hyrule. The Chamber of Sages is the last place in which the evil has not entered and Sheik is its protector. SHEIK When evil rules all, an awakening voice from the Sacred Realm will call those destined to be Sages. Together with the Hero of Time they will bind the evil and return the light of peace to the world. The first Sage acts as the protector of Kakariko village. Her name, I'm sure you know is, Impa. From her you will find out who the second Sage is. Go. Link's body begins to change into a swirl of green light. The swirl then flies out of the chamber. It lands at the pedestal where the Master Sword was and then changes back into Link. He checks himself to make sure all of his body parts are in place and then runs out of the Temple of Time. Outside the sky is pitch black and so heavy with clouds that the days and nights here seem all the same. When Link gets into the Market Place he sees it completely in ruins. The markets that were once there are all burned down and the people have been replaced by monsters called RE-DEADS. They are Zombie like and attack if you get too close. When Link sees the Re-deads he runs back to the safety of the pathway. He gets a grip on himself, pulls out his sword and then runs back into the market place. He kills the first Re-dead as it gets up from the ground. Attacks and slices off the head of another Re-dead that was coming from behind. Two more Re-deads from the other side of the market see Link and begin moving toward him. Link sees the two Re-deads and runs over to them and quickly dispatches them. He looks around the market and sees that all the re-deads have been slain. Then his eyes fall on the castle in the background. The once beautiful Castle of Hyrule has done a complete 180. Now that Ganondorf has taken over Hyrule he's made a few decorative changes to the Castles exterior. Link is amazed and a little frightened by this sight. He backs away from the castle and leaves Hyrule Market. Link can be seen walking through the fields of Hyrule trying to remember the path that he and Impa took to Kakariko village. He looks in the distance for Death Mountain but it is hard to see through all the dark clouds covering the sky. Finally after traveling a bit he sees Death Mountain. The ring of clouds that was circling around the peak of the Mountain earlier have been replaced by a circle red lightning. If we didn't know what they really meant then we might even consider it to be beautiful. Link picks up his pace towards the mountain. When Link arrives to Kakariko village it is completely empty. There are few houses still left standing and Link checks them calling out for anybody who might hear him. No one. He walks back out to the center of the village wondering what he should do next. From behind Link a voice calls to him. "Are you looking for me?" He turns around and sees Impa standing there. She looks no different from when he last saw her. Impa recognizes him immediately. Link inquires about what happened to the village. Impa says that Ganondorf took all the people of the village into the cave at the bottom of the well and is holding them prisoner until she hands over Princess Zelda. They are being guarded by a powerful knight known as IRON KNUCKLE. She says she doesn't have the skills to defeat him but now that Link has arrived perhaps they could defeat him together. Link agrees and they head for the bottom of the well. The Bottom of the Well consists of circular hallways and is mainly vertical. As they climb down ladders and go into different rooms they encounter different creatures. Among these are Keese, some Re-deads, a few Stalfos, a batch of tekites and a POE ghost. The Poe is purplish in color and roundish in figure. It has no legs and moves by floating. It carries in its hand a small torch with a purple flame which is the only thing that will identify where in the room it is when it disappears. It can only be killed with arrows at a far range, which Impa just happens to be equipped with. When they get to the last room they see a few pillars leading the way to a throne made of stone. Sitting on top of the throne is Iron Knuckle. His head is tilted towards the ground and from the looks of it seems to be sleeping. He is armed with a huge battle-axe, which he carries easily with one hand, and protected by what seems to be steel plated armor. Behind him lies a door, which is where the prisoners are being kept. Impa takes one look at Iron Knuckle and sees that her arrows will not be able to pierce the armor. Link says that he'll fight off Iron Knuckle while Impa runs around to the door and releases the prisoners. Link prepares for battle as he walks closer and closer to Iron Knuckle. Suddenly, Iron Knuckle stands causing Link to stop dead in his tracks. Iron Knuckle begins slowly moving over to Link who holds up his shield. Then Impa remembers something. She whispers over to Link to not let Iron Knuckle hit him with the axe. One swoop and him and the shield are both goners. LINK Thanks for telling me now! Link straps his shield to his back and hold the sword with two hands. Iron Knuckle is now close enough to swing his axe and does right when Link rolls behind him. Iron Knuckle takes the swing hitting nothing but air. Link in the advantage also takes a swing and makes a direct hit. The swing knocks a small part of the armor off. As the fight between Iron Knuckle and Link continues Impa makes her move. She runs to one of the pillars and hides behind it. She looks around to check and see if Iron Knuckle's back is to her. It is. She makes for the throne and hides then slowly backs up to the door behind her, opens it and slips through. In the room there are three cells filled with thirty or so people. An OLD WOMAN notices Impa and tells everybody to get up Impa's come to save them. Impa tells them they have to be quiet because Iron Knuckle is still outside. She pushes a switch on the wall and all the doors to the cells begin to open. Outside Iron Knuckle has lost half of his armor. He takes a swing at Link who does a back flip to avoid it. It hits one of the pillars turning it into a pile of bricks. Link lunges removing some more armor. The prison door opens again. Impa checks to see if Iron Knuckle is not looking. Sure enough he isn't. She motions to a few people to run to the other door and they do. Link keeps Iron Knuckle busy as more and more people escape. Link now has knocked off most of the armor from Iron Knuckle making his attack easier. But Iron Knuckle too has an advantage. Without all that armor he is able to move faster. Iron Knuckle takes another swing and Link goes in for a hit. Before he can though Iron Knuckle backhands him with his steel gauntlet. Link falls to the ground slightly bedazzled. Iron Knuckle raises his axe for the kill but then his eyes catch the prisoners escaping. He turns around in time to see Impa carrying a child out of the room. She sees Iron Knuckle charging them and hits the brakes right before the battle- axe swings downward blocking their path. He raises the axe one more time as Impa covers the child the best she can. But before Iron Knuckle can swing Link has recovered and plunged his sword right into the uncovered back of Iron Knuckle. He drops his axe and then falls to the ground dead. Impa opens her eyes to see Link pulling his sword out of Iron Knuckle. The child sees the dead body then runs toward the door where her mother, who nearly died herself watching her child almost die, was waiting. Impa takes a sigh of relief and then takes Links offered hand and gets to her feet. They look down at Iron Knuckle whose body begins to dissolve away being replaced by a blue circle of light just big enough for the both of them. They walk into it and it fills the entire room. They are teleported to the Chamber of Sages. Link descends to the center of the platform. Impa descends onto one of the outer circles. She thanks him for saving her people and then tells him where he can find the next Sage. "The Sage is a girl I'm sure you know. She dwells in the forest." Next thing we know we are in Hyrule field. Link lays unconscious on the ground. His eyes flutter awake. He gets up wondering how he got here then heads for the forest. When he gets there he finds it in even worse condition than Kakariko village. All the houses are toppled over. There is not a hint of green anywhere. The Deku Tree is obviously dead. Link is unable to speak. He runs to where his tree house used to be and finds it toppled over like the rest. Link sees a figure walking towards him suspiciously. Then in a sudden realization it begins running toward him. FIGURE You! I'm going to kill you! Link doesn't have much of a chance to defend himself. The Figure tackles Link to the ground and pins him. FIGURE You left us here to die! After everything we've done for you. You left us! LINK I don't understand. What? FIGURE You don't remember me do you? Who would after all these years? It's me, Mido. LINK Mido? MIDO You promised you'd save the forest. Now look at it! Look at me! He releases his grip on Link and gets up. MIDO After you left things got worse. The Deku Tree died and then Nydia. After that we had no protection from the outside world anymore. Saria tried her best to keep up together... LINK Saria! Mido where's Saria? MIDO ...But it was too late. Ganondorf made his attack on Hyrule... LINK Mido I need to find Saria. MIDO ...Then he destroyed all the villages one bye one - LINK Mido! (Finally getting his attention) I need to talk to Saria. Where is she? Mido's face changes back to hate and contempt. MIDO She's dead! They're all dead because of you! And with that he runs off. Link just stands there breathless. For a moment it looks like he's about to cry and then does. He cries for a little while before he suddenly feels that he is not alone. He turns around taking out his sword and shield and prepares to fight. But it is not a monster. It is Sheik. He stands there looking down at the ground. Link tells him he wants to be alone when Sheik tells him that Saria isn't dead. After Ganondorf seized control of Hyrule he knew of Link and Saria's relationship together. She is being held against her will just on the other side of the Forest. The guard is a spell Ganondorf placed which has any who try to rescue her fighting there worst fear. Link has heard enough. All he wants to know is which direction to go. Sheik points behind him and says, "West, near the lake. You'll find her there." The Lake Sheik was talking about isn't really a lake so to speak. There is no hole for the water to fill. The water just sort of rests on top of the ground so if one were to walk on it would appear as if they were walking on water. In the middle of this "lake" is a small tree. Link checks the depth of the water with his sword and sees that it doesn't even go down two inches. He walks slowly across the water and as he goes further in he gains confidence in knowing that he won't fall in. He sees not to far from the tree in the middle of the lake a red crystalline chamber hovering in midair. Inside is Saria. Link runs up to it and Saria sees him and grows very excited yelling his name. But we can't hear anything. All we see is her lips moving. He looks up at her and says he's going to get her out of there. He can't reach because it's too high so he looks around for a rock or something to throw. Then his eyes fall on a figure standing next to the tree. Link moves in for a closer look and sees that the figure is his shadow. This is DARK LINK; Links worst fear coming true. Both Link and Dark Link prepare for battle circling each other. And then Dark Link strikes. The battle is long and gruesome with both Link and Dark Link getting the upper hand at times but in the end Link comes out victorious. The crystalline chamber holding Saria descends to the floor and then dissolves away. Link runs over to Saria, as does she. They run into each other's arms hugging each other lovingly. "I knew you'd come back. I knew it." Link apologizes for not being able to save the forest but she tells him not to. It wasn't his fault. Then Dark Link's body begins to dissolve and the same as before with Iron Knuckle a circle of blue light appears. Saria and Link walk in. In the chamber of Sages Link stands in his usual spot with Saria on one of the outer rings. She thanks him again and tells him not to worry about the forest. Once Ganondorf's reign is over it will flourish once again. She tells him then to go to the Temple of Time. "There is someone waiting for you." A flash of light and Link finds himself back on the platform in the Temple of Time. He turns around and sees Sheik standing behind him. SHEIK I've been waiting for you, Link. You have overcome many hardships and gained many skills. Now the time has come for the final showdown with Ganondorf. But first there are things I must tell only you. Listen carefully. A legend of the Triforce few people know. If the person who touches the Triforce has the forces of power, wisdom and courage in balance, only then can they gain the True Triforce. If those forces are out of balance then the Triforce will split into three parts each representing one of the forces and leave the one who touched it the Triforce part that reflects them. If that one person seeks the True Triforce they must seek the others who were chosen by destiny to acquire the other two parts who would only be known if the symbol of the Triforce is on the back of their hands. This was only a legend until seven years ago when Ganondorf touched the Triforce and the legend came true. The Triforce separated into three parts and Ganondorf was left only with the Triforce of Power. But Ganondorf was not satisfied. He then searched all of Hyrule for the two destined to hold the other two parts of the Triforce. Only when the one who holds the piece of the Triforce is at peace will its true power be attained. The one who holds the Triforce of courage is you Link. Link is surprised. SHEIK Did you ever doubt it? Link is speechless. SHEIK The other who holds the Triforce of Wisdom is the third Sage and the one destined to be the leader of them all. With that Sheik holds up the back of his hand to show Link and symbol of the Triforce with the lower right triangle highlighted. Then a bright light blinds Link. He opens his eyes to see Princess Zelda standing in front of him. She apologizes for meeting him in disguise but it was necessary in order to avoid Ganondorf. When she rode off seven years before she thought because Link had the medallion Ganondorf would never get into the Sacred Realm. But she never expected that when Link pulled the Master Sword that it would seal him away for seven years. She passed herself off as Sheik and waited for Link for seven years. But now that he's back she and the other sages can seal Ganondorf in the Evil Realm. Suddenly the whole temple begins to shake in a huge earthquake. A crystalline chamber like the one Saria was held in forms around Zelda. Link pulls out his sword and begins swinging away at the chamber but it is unbreakable. He drops the sword on the floor and bangs on the chamber. It begins to rise into the air until in a sudden burst of light it disappears. Only the sound of Ganondorf's laughter can be heard echoing the Temple. Link grabs his sword and runs out of the temple. Link makes his way into Ganondorf's castle and up the central tower. He goes up three flights and through two rooms in which he fights two Stalfos's in the first room and two Iron Knuckles in the second. He finishes them off easily. He is a man on a mission and he's not letting anything get in his way. He climbs the third flight of stairs and into the final room where he sees Ganondorf on his knees his head tilted up to the Triforce symbol on the wall he's facing. Hovering above Ganondorf is Zelda a frightened look on her face. GANONDORF The Triforce parts are resonating. I can feel it. Seven years I have searched for the missing Triforce pieces. I never thought they'd be hidden within you two. He turns and holds his fist in front of him showing the back of his hand. Then the Triforce symbol appears with the top triangle being highlighted. GANONDORF I will make you pay for stealing what is rightfully mine! Ganondorf jumps into the air, his body glowing a bright red. He looks down at Link with glowing red eyes. The room then begins to shake. The walls begin to disintegrate, as does the ceiling. Soon the whole room has been completely demolished. The floor now acts as the roof of the castles main tower with a two hundred-foot drop on all sides. Then Ganondorf begins to morph into a HUGE, GIGANTIC, LARGE, MONSTROUS, HUMOUNGOUS...BIG...thing. You know its GANON, the Pig/Minotaur/Demon/Bull creature. He is armed with two huge swords. Let's just say it would make the Terminator a little uneasy. And if the Terminator's a little uneasy then Link must be shitting his pants. He stares up the huge beast in absolute horror. Ganon lets out a huge roar then takes a mighty swing with one of his swords. Link holds his shield in front of him not sure if he'll be able to take swing. But Ganon's sword doesn't hit the shield. It hits the Master Sword and knocks it out of Link's hand sending it flying through the air. It lands in the ground fifty feet away Braveheart style. Link, swordless, stares up the huge beast. He dodges a swing Ganon makes and runs behind him. Ganon turns and with his two blades crossed over each other creating a huge fireball that flies right for Link. Link holds up his shield to block the fireball but it is too strong and it sends him flying through the air. Ganon picks up the wounded Link growls in his face and then throws him off the edge of the roof. He roars in triumph and then turns his sights to Zelda. On the edge of the roof Link barely hangs on for life. With all his strength he pulls himself up to the top and hides behind a rubble of rocks. He looks above the rocks and sees Ganon approaching Zelda's chamber. He looks around for something, anything to do to help her. He grabs some rocks and throws them at the far corner of the roof causing a loud raucous. Ganon turns and begins to investigate knocking anything away he would think would act as a hiding place. Link looks back at Zelda to see if she's okay. She notices him and begins yelling his name. As he gazes at her his face changes from fear to total relaxation. He turns his head away from Zelda, rests his head on the rocks and closes his eyes. Suddenly the back of his hand begins to glow. He looks at it and sees the Triforce symbol with the lower left triangle highlighted. He knows what to do. Link stands up totally calm and begins to walk up to the Ganon creature. Ganon feels his presence and turns sharply around. Link stands his ground not a hint of fear anywhere in his body. Ganon roars and then sticks his two swords together releasing a fireball headed straight for Link. Right before the fireball hits Link kneels on his right leg and places his left fist firmly on the ground. Then the fireball hits only it doesn't hit Link. Right when it hits a green pyramid forms around Link acting as a shield. Ganon stands back a little curious as to what just happened. Link stands and stares at Ganon who roars in anger. He makes a swing with one of the swords but Link dodges it by jumping into the air and hanging there. Then Link does a motion with his hands and lets out a huge burst of energy. It hits Ganon dead on and screams falling to the ground in pain. Link looks over at Zelda who returns his look then looks over to the Master Sword. Link follows her gaze. He falls to floor just as Ganon is starting to recover. He grabs the sword and then runs behind Ganon. He does an inhuman leap into the air and jams the sword right into the back of the creature then leaps off. Ganon writhes in pain as he tries to pull the sword from his back. The crystalline chamber that has been imprisoning Zelda falls to the floor and disappears. She reaches up to the sky and calls for the other two Sages saying, "Now is the time to end this reign or terror." Impa and Saria descend from the sky as balls of blue light and then form into Impa and Saria. Zelda floats into the air joining the two. They let out waves of light toward Ganon. They bombard him over and over until he begins to be taken piece by piece into the clouds above until there is nothing left except the Master Sword, which lies unmoving on the ground. Over at Kakariko Village, the villagers have begun working on repairs to their village when in the background Death Mountain begins to erupt. The villagers stop what they are doing and look up at the eruption. The dust clears and the thunderous clouds that once circled the peak are replaced by the normal clouds we saw earlier. Zelda, Saria, Impa, and Link watch the transformation of Death Mountains peak from the roof. ZELDA It's over. It's finally over. IMPA There is a lot of repairing Hyrule is going to have to do. SARIA Let us hope that no one forgets what happened here lest we repeat ourselves. LINK I don't know about you guys but I'm exhausted. Impa turns and looks at Link and tells him that he grew up to be quite a hero. She shakes his hand and walks into the circle of light. Saria is next and hugs him. "I knew you were destined for great things. And when you left the forest I knew you'd come back. I never doubted you for a second." She too walks into the circle waiting with Impa. Zelda is the last to say goodbye. ZELDA Thanks to you, Ganondorf has been sealed away in the Evil Realm. I can't help but feel responsible for all the tragedy that has befallen Hyrule. I was too young and inexperienced then and I brought you into it as well. Now I have a chance to make things right. She kneels down and picks up the Master Sword and holds it up to Link. He takes it. ZELDA You must return the Master Sword to it's resting place and close the Door of Time. As a Sage I can return you to your original time. Only when peace returns to Hyrule will it be time for us to say goodbye. She leans close kisses his cheek and whispers in his ear "Goodbye." Then she takes a few steps back. A crystalline chamber like the one Zelda was held in except it is blue forms around Link. He presses his palms against the chamber not wanting to leave. ZELDA Now, go home, Link. Regain your lost time. Home... where you are supposed to be... the way you are supposed to be. She too puts her hands against the outside of the chamber wanting to touch his but can't. The chamber lifts into the air. ZELDA (Almost a whisper) Thank you... goodbye. And in a flash of light the chamber is gone. Zelda walks into the circle with Impa and Saria and it teleports them away to the Chamber of Sages. Back in the Temple of Time the Master Sword room is filled with light as we start out at the ceiling and PAN down until we get to the floor where we see Link 13 again. He has just replaced the Master Sword to its rightful place. Even though he is only thirteen we see in his eyes the experience and courage one only gets when they have faced their demons and beaten them. He takes one last look at the Master Sword and then walks out of the Temple. At the Kokiri Forest the villagers are alive and happy performing their usual day-to-day tasks. The Deku Tree is alive and kicking as well as Nydia. A LITTLE GIRL playing with her friends suddenly stops and looks at the pathway leading out into Hyrule field. She sees Link and yells to everyone in the Village announcing Link's return. Everyone stops what they are doing and rush towards Link except for Mido who stays where he is smiling to himself. They pat Link on the back and ask him questions like if he was scared or does he have any adventure stories to tell them. Saria, who was in her house at the time, sticks her head out to see the crowd gathering around Link. She slowly steps out of her house not believing her eyes. Link spots her coming out and then gives a big enthusiastic wave. She begins to cry in joy. They run into each other arms and hug as if they haven't seen each other in years. LINK Ask me how I feel. SARIA (Slight laugh) How do you feel? LINK Never felt better in my whole life. She smiles and hugs him again. She opens her eyes to see a few of the Royal Guards marching down the pathway leading a horse being ridden by both Impa and young Zelda. Link follows her gaze as does everybody else in the village. Impa stops the horse. Then two of the Royal Guards help Zelda down. Nydia walks up and greets her. Link tells Saria he'll be right back and walks up behind Nydia stopping a few feet back. Zelda notices him and something strikes her as being familiar. Nydia looks back at Link and smiles moving out of the way for Zelda. Zelda walks towards Link stopping just a few feet away. ZELDA Excuse me. I don't mean to sound silly, but have we met before. LINK No. Not yet. ZELDA Oh. Well, my name is Princess Zelda. What's your name? LINK My name is Link. ZELDA Hello, Link. It's nice to meet you. LINK It's nice to meet you too. We HOLD as they continue to gaze at each other than we FADE OUT. THE END
