Outcasts and Heroes

by Mallard

Chapter 3

Meanwhile, in a dark unused basement, Aaron, Impa, and Mallard were working on this new "Ghostbuster 2000" that he had dreamed up. "So when you want to turn it on, you press the activation stud. Then you turn this knob to set it to the setting you want. Then, you fire it and then it starts to hold it in it's grasp until you can get it in this thing called a molecular/ectoplasmic trap. It traps those things in there until you can get them into the dumpoff point that goes into the Dark World," Aaron said. "How do you know so much about this?" Impa asked. "You wouldn't understand," Aaron said. "Let's try this baby out!" Mallard shouted. "Wait, we have to hook it up to a pack that goes on your back. Here, hook this up, will you, Impa?" Aaron asked, slipping the pack on and giving the gun hookup to Impa so she could fit it into the slot that it went into. Aaron took the gun off his back. He aimed and fired a blast. It knocked him onto his back, knocking the wind out of Aaron. A huge hole was blown up in the wall. "Bill Murray, eat your heart out!" Aaron quipped. Mallard cheered. Impa looked thunderstruck. "What?" Aaron asked. "You may have found the key to defeating Ganon," Impa said, choking back a joyful sob. "Oh, absolutely no need to thank me!" Aaron grinned. "Hey, what are the settings on that thing?" Mallard asked. "Um, let's see, if you press this button, it automatically blows up. It also has a stun setting where it stuns non-ghost types of things. Then there's the Fire Button, which switches to fire-based magic, the Ice Button, which switches to ice-based magic, and the Light Button, which switches to light-based magic. Oh yeah, Saria and Ruto helped me with some options too. You can call up Farore's Wind, very, very, useful, you can set a timer to up to thirty seconds for it to open the energy container doors and let the energy flame outta there, like Din's Fire, and we added a little protective shield that you can conjure up for several minutes. There's nothing this baby can't do!" Aaron remarked proudly. "Wow," Mallard said. "I think that we had better be checking on Lannod and Jardi." Impa said, wiping a tear from her eye. "Yeah," Aaron said, walking up to the locked and barred doors. He opened them. "Just us, guys!" he said, as the other two walked out as well. They walked over to where Lannod and Jardi where supposed to be watching Zelda. They were both slumped over, and Lannod had been shot by a mgic beam, because a big bruise was on his neck. Jardi wasn't doing well. "This isn't good. And I think I know just what our Zelda has in mind," Aaron said, sighing heavily.

Link looked at the branches of the trees. He felt strangely calm, sort of peaceful. "Probably just thinking about Saria. I need to get some rest," he said, turning over and going back to bed. There was that sound again! Link sat up and got his sword out. He saw some sort of glow coming from over where the kid who played the flute usually played. He got up and advanced stealthily toward the area, using the brush as cover. He saw a woman floating in the air, as if waiting for someone. Finally she started yelling. "Link, if you aren't here in five minutes, I'm leaving!" Link frowned and got a closer look, then started talking. "Well, your fine husband is here!" he said, walking up to Zelda. Zelda looked at him strangely. "Did you know I'm a ghost?" she asked. "Oh yeah, I do see that sort of transparency thing!" Link laughed. Zelda groaned. "Look, hotshot, don't even think of doing that resurrection thing on me, this Goddesses paradise that they talk about, they aren't kidding! It really is paradise! You should see it. Well, I've got to go, I can only stay for so long, but there's something going on at the castle. Jardi and Lannod are in a bad way, and your dad's got something planned. I don't like what he's been doing. Heck, I know what he's been doing, I'm just trying to sound cryptic. And Link?" Zelda asked. "Yeah, Zelda?" Link asked. "I love you." she said, fading away. Link gave a half-hearted grin. "Yeah. G-good-bye for good, I guess. Can't see what's so good about it, though. I'll have to get out of here, and get going back to the castle." he said, packing up his stuff and dragging it all down to where Epona was sleeping in Kokiri Forest. He woke her up and galloped out of the forest. As he rode through the field, he could see reminders of her all around, like the time they had gone riding together, and the time Zelda had shown him some awesome flowers, and the time....that Link had proposed to Zelda. Link sighed. Suddenly a horse galloped up beside him. Link looked at the figure on it. She had long black hair, a cute face, she was rather tall, as tall as Link, in fact, and she looked like she came from a poor family. "Link, remember me?" she asked. Link immediately pulled hard on the reins. The girl galloped another couple of hundred yards before she turned around and stopped right by him. "Meryl Jacobs, I thought I'd never see you again! Where have you been?" he asked, laughing. "Well, I've been in the Market all my life, with Mother and Dad! I'm still an only child though," Meryl said. Meryl Jacobs was a girl that Link had met back in the Market on one outing while going to get a little present for Zelda one day seven years ago. "Well, gosh, that's great! I'm amazed I never saw you!" Link said. "But I saw you, walking around hand in hand with Princess Zelda! It's too bad that she died, you two probably still had a lot of life left together," Meryl said. Link nodded. "Well, what are you doing out here tonight?" he asked. Meryl giggled. "I was just coming to visit you, actually! No, I'm not trying to marry you, I'm just coming to cheer you up!" Meryl said. "Man, between Aaron, Mallard, and fighting Ganon, I'm in good shape! By the way, I was camping out in the Lost Woods. Do you want to come back to the castle?" Link asked. "I'd love to! Race you!" Meryl said, spurring her horse forward. Link grinned and raced to catch up.
