Chapter 13 - Last Battle/At the Final End

‘ZELDAAA!!!’ Another cry shook the frozen landscape of Hyrule. In a remote place, far away from the fallen Hyrule Castle Town, a beaten Link sat. In his arms lay Zelda, her appearance beautiful although she was no more. He had killed her. His princess, his eternal love which he had sworn to protect… His eyes felt clouded, blurred by the tears he cried, realizing that he had done something so awful in his anger, in his rage. Holding her close, he proceeded to pull out the sword from her abdomen; he took a hard grip around the hilt and fast brought it out. The blood covered blade emerged slowly until it was fully visible. Looking at it, he could see his own eyes in its reflection among the red stains that flowed down it. His eyes of dark blue but with a hint of light blue amongst it, shone with regret. They looked sad, and so he felt as he gazed into the thin blade. ‘…Should I join her? She is waiting for me…I have nothing left in this world. I am alone. A lone Wolf.’ He turned the blade in direction towards his chest, right where his heart was, holding it still in the cold air. He was not afraid of death, never had been, since he had witnessed it early on a long time ago in another age. He couldn’t live without her! Raising the sword into the air without hesitation, he made himself ready to strike. He closed his eyes tightly.  Was this the end?

‘…Link…Link…put it down, you don’t have to do this to yourself…’ He heard Zelda’s fading beautiful voice in his mind. In the darkness of his closed eyes, her voice brought him hope. ‘Why?’ Link asked to her. ‘You still have something to complete, and fulfill your destiny as the chosen hero. You know what I mean, the final battle. You can’t let Ganondorf win and get the Triforce! The world, our world, will be destroyed if he ever comes across it. It is your destiny…’ ‘Zelda, wait!!!’ He screamed out and awakened, his eyes opened once more, and he dropped Zelda’s sword from his hand. It landed softly, not making as much but a mark in the snow. Zelda’s body was gone… left was only the blood that had been spilled. In seeing the blood, Link suddenly became aware of his own wounds. He felt the pain all over him. Gritting his teeth together he slowly got up on his feet, taking the Master Sword in his hand, using it to steady him as he began following Ganondorf’s tracks. A dark ominous silhouette made itself seen at the horizon, the Evil King. Link’s eyes filled with rage as soon as he recognized him.

‘About time you came, hero. Too bad you didn’t kill yourself back there with the dead princess!’

‘YOU BASTARD!!!’ Link leapt forward, transforming into his wolf self, as he landed right in front of Ganondorf, a large ring of roaring flame spread around them. At the sight of the large wolf, growling amidst the red fire reflected on it, sparks flying into the air, Ganondorf saw the scars and the many bleeding cuts Link had. ‘Pathetic fool, how do you think you will defeat me when you are so weak?!’ He moved forwards in a flash becoming what Link least had expected. He became a wolf, just like him. Why had he decided to be a wolf and not a giant boar this time around? ‘The only way this battle can be decided is if a beast of light fights a beast of darkness. I have changed myself from the one I was you met last time. To defeat you in this new form given to me by the Triforce of Power will show once and for all, that Power outshines Courage and Wisdom!! He grinned, showing off the long large fangs and teeth in a menacing way. Hyrule IS mine!’ Link, growling at him in a very deep tone, his eyes full of pride and anger, rushed forward, his hackles fully out and his tail up. Ganon did the same, unleashing a terrible roar as he cut open a wound on Link’s shoulder, Link closing his eyes in pain as he felt the sting of it. But Ganon didn’t wait for him to recover; he charged, and pushed Link away violently making him tumble over the ground, his blood flowing over the ice. Link landed hard on a large frozen rock, and felt how he bleeded more. He struggled to get up on his paws, but almost lost his balance from the blood loss. Link dashed again, this time running in a wide circle as his nemesis did, before they came closer and closer to at last meet in a fury of claws and fangs. Slashing, biting and snarling they got more and more wounded. With blood on his face, Link lashed out right at Ganon, tired of fighting. He bit him as hard as he could in his throat, his fangs sinking in deep.  The battle was soon ended; Ganon fell to the ice, laying still. Link towered over him, feeling his heart beating in a rapid motion. Ganon wasn’t dead; he caught Link off guard, and very quickly morphed into his human form as he slashed his sword at him. Link fell into the snow on his back with the sword tip at his throat. ‘You’re defeated. Like all wolves die with a fight, so will wolf warriors. You, an Úlfhéðinn, will also face this fate. You fight as a wolf and you go berserk, hero. You don’t even care that you could lose your own life in the process! He smiled grimly at Link. Now, die!’ He raised his sword and was just about to finish him off with a single powerful slash, when his laughing was abruptly ended. Link looked up surprised, seeing the large metal piece of an arrow head reveal itself out of Ganondorf’s chest. A light arrow that beamed with yellow flares in the darkness. Ganondorf turned around, his eyes in thin slits: ‘YOU?!’ In the shadow of the flames, Link could see the shape of a human revealing itself, a sword in one hand, a golden bow in the other. A Hylian woman. His eyes widened at the sight of her: It was none other than Princess Zelda, fully alive!

‘This…is …IMPOSSIBLE!!! You shouldn’t be alive!’ Ganondorf shouted out in anger.

Ganondorf, you pitiful man without a righteous heart, should know, that the Triforce of Wisdom protected me from dying just as your Triforce of Power saved you from certain death when the Ancient Sages used the Spirit Sword to impale you at the Arbiter’s Grounds!’

‘Well then…seems the Princess has her ways…how amusing! Let’s see how well you can fight me when your lover is dead!’ He smiled as he raised the blade once more, holding it high and upon of hearing Zelda’s cry of ‘Don’t!’ stroke it down hard into the defenseless Link’s  throat, the blood flying up into the air, Zelda hearing Link’s scream of pain. His head fell to the side, the sword piercing his throat in a dark red mess of blood. The life of his eyes darkened and faded away as he took a last glance at Zelda before everything went dark.  Ganondorf rushed towards Zelda, unsheathing the second sword he had at her. She recoiled and fought back with her own thin rapier, locking her blade together with his. Ganondorf smiled at her distressed face. She tensed up even more, feeling how her anger towards him increased the more she thought about how Link lay lifeless in the snow. At last, their blades slid over each other, ending the clash with an array of sparks. They both flew back from the middle of the battleground, snow flying up in storms around their feet. Zelda held her sword down by her side, lifting up her left hand and unleashed a magic spell upon Ganondorf. The light that she cast out, resembled the form of a giant noble phoenix flying towards him, its light so strong that it blinded Ganondorf’s eyes and lit up the ground. Zelda advanced, thrusting her blade at him, the Phoenix spell smashed into a thousand pieces of light as she came through with her sword. Ganondorf grunted, feeling how her blade ran through his armor, piercing him. A stream of pure light made its way to his wound, the light of the Master Sword which lay on the ground beside Link’s body. Zelda let go off the hilt, stepping back as she saw how Ganondorf struggled to get up from where he was on his knees. His hand stretched out to grab her, but he never got the chance to subdue her with his dark magic. His Triforce left him, abandoning him to be on his own. It faded away from him and his eyes grew evil, filled with hatred at his failure. With a yellow glint in his gaze, he smiled a wicked smile, blood flowing down his mouth and teeth. ‘…I told you…the history of Light and Shadow would be written in blood! I will return, just you wait!! This battle between the Triforce’s powers will never end!!!!’ He laughed a hoarse loud laugh until it quieted down. His eyes rolled back, and he fell down into the snow, turning to dark ashes that scattered by the wind. With his disappearance, the heavy snowfall stopped, and everything became clear. It was calm, the only thing noticed being snow on the ground stretching for miles beyond. Zelda walked towards the wolf, which lay motionless ahead of her. His eyes were closed among the blood. She reached out, holding her hand at his head, carefully stroking the soft fur. She had small tears running down her face, as she closed her eyes. ‘…Link…I love you Link…’ she whispered to him, as she faded away, this time for good her triforce shining and giving its light to him. He was on his own in the night. Ganondorf’s sword was gone from him, as his dark powers had fallen by the light of the Master Sword.

The crest on his left paw rekindled, filled with light. As it cooled down, the Triforce was complete. His eyes opened, reflecting the rays of light. He got up, his form changing to his true self. Glancing at the back of his left hand, he saw how the pieces of Triforce came out from it, all three floating in the air as they spun around above him. He looked up from where he stood, his hair blowing over his face with power, the blood still running down his forehead and his scars looking like thin slashes on his face. His torn tunic blew for the wind, showing his strong chest. A light embraced the heavens, making all as bright over and under. There it was, the almighty Triforce, relic of the Gods, together in one piece. He straddled forward, as he knew he didn’t have much time before he would meet his end. Was it not true that the Triforce made mortal wishes come true? He knew.

His destiny had reached its end.  This was it. Smiling in his pain, Link stretched out his blood covered hand towards the direction of the Triforce in the Sky. As he did so, he could see his own hand in front of him, and above it, the glowing Triangle. He closed his eyes, as the Triforce came down to his hand, and at the slightest touch by his fingertips, resonated and shone over all areas of Hyrule, from Death Mountain to Zora’s Domain, from Ordon to Gerudo Desert, its mark could be seen in the darkness like wildfire. And, in the middle of Hylia, in the middle of the light orb that it created, a warrior could be seen holding the very power in his hands. The power of the Gods.
