A New Legend

By Link the Paladin

Chapter I: A New Beginning

Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, Link saw the world below changing rapidly. The scorched earth was replaced by beautiful plant life once agian, The ruined buildings began to fade back to thier original forms, as if they were never destroyed.

"Zelda... look..." Link said stunned.

"What is-" Zelda gasped at the site below wer before finishing her sentence

A golden light flooded the ReDead infested market square of castle town, spreading to the corners of Hyrule. The undead remnants of Ganon's reign turned to stone and crumbled to dust in the wake of the spreading light. Link and Zelda decended slowly to the outer courtyard. All of a sudden the great castle of Hyrule faded into reality as if it had never been gone.

"Link... What's happening?" Zelda asked.

Link didn't know much more than she, however he had seen this happen many times before. Perhaps this was the same thing?

"I think I've seen this before..." Link said with a little uncertainty. "The monsters disappearing from the forest, the ring around Death Mountain returning to normal, The water refilling Lake Hylia... I think as the evil leaves the areas around their source, they return to normal. In this case Ganondorf himself was the source, so I guess that means now that he's gone, the rest of Hyrule will return to normal."

"That makes sense..." Zelda said accepting Link's explaination, even though he himself wasn't to sure of it.

"ZELDA!!!" called a voice coming from the direction of the castle.

Zelda and Link turned to see a man in a red robe, decorated with various Hyrulean symbols running towards them. The crown he wore immediatly gave him away as royalty. It was Zelda's father, the king of Hyrule.

"Daddy?" Zelda said not quite believing what she saw.

"Is it really you?" she asked when he stopped before them. "I thought... you were dead."

Zelda reached out and touched her fathers robe, wondering if it was another sick joke from Ganondorf to get the last laugh. But when she touched him, he didn't fade away, or transform into a hideous beast. It was just him... Her father.

Zelda rushed forward and quickly embraced her father, nearly knocking him to the ground.

"How long... have I been gone for?" He asked looking at the woman his little girl had become.

"It's been seven years Your Majesty..." Link spoke up.

"Seven years..." The King repeated more confused then before. "How is it possible?"

"I believe we can answer Daphnes." Said a familiar female voice. It unquestionably had to be Impa, for she was the only one who addressed the king by his first name.

Link turned to see the six sages walking up to meet the them. Impa, the silver haired Sheikah woman, who was Zelda's nanny and bodyguard, the Sage of Shadow. Saria, the emerald haired Kokiri girl who had been Link's best freind for years, the Sage of the Forest. Darunia, the huge goron who had made Link his sworn brother, the Sage of Fire. Ruto, the danger prone zora princess, who had a crush on Link, until she discovered her destiny as the Sage of Water. Nabooru, the firey haired Gerudo thief who Link had saved from the Twinrova sisters and awakened as the Sage of Spirit. and Rauru, the Sage of Light who guided Link after he woke up after his seven years in the Sacred realm.

"Now that Ganondorf is gone, all the damage he caused with the Triforce of Power is being undone." Impa said simply.

"I don't understand... What happened during these last seven years?" The king asked

"Long story..." Link and Zelda said in unison. "Do you want to hear it now?" Link asked?

"If you would..." Daphnes said

Link began to tell the tale of his adventure.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"...And that's how it happened." Link said finishing his story.
Daphnes stood there awestruck at a loss for words hearing this amazing tale. If it had been told by any other the king would have dismissed it as a silly fairy tale, however, something about this young man named Link made him believe every word.
"So..." Daphnes said trying to find the right words. "You are the Hero of Time from the legend... And with my daughter and these six, you defeated Ganondorf and sealed him away?"
"More or less..." Link said laying his head back in his arms.
"Never in all my years as King, had I thought the legend of the Hero of Time to come true..." the king said still a little stunned
"Daddy?" Zelda said softly to her father.
"Yes my daughter?" asked the king lowering his eyes to meet Zelda who was now standing beside Link.
"Link and I... Are in love." Zelda said slowly not quite sure how her father would react to this.
"Is that so..." The king said lowering his eyes. "Well... you all know that by tradition he must be of noble birth to enter ther royal family."
"But-" Zelda began, but the King rose his hand to silence her.
"However..." Daphnes raised his head in a mischevious grin. "I always hated that tradition..." He finished with a chuckle before rising to look upon Link.
"So, your in love with my daughter eh Hero?" King Daphnes said casually.
"I... um... yes?" Link stumbled on his words causing the king to laugh a bit more.
"My boy... You have done so much for me, my daughter, my kingdom... How could I be any less than accepting of your love for Zelda?" The king said proudly "There is no other man in this land more worthy of my daughter's hand, and no man who I would be more proud to have as a member of my family."
"Thank you Your Majesty!" Link choked out falling to his knees to bow before his king.
Link felt himself rise as Daphnes lifted him off the ground and pplaced a firm hand on his shoulder.
"Come now my boy." said the king "You are the last person who should have to bow to anyone. The service you've done for my kingdom is far greater than any in the history of Hyrule."
 "Besides... If your going to join my family there wont be any need for that anyway!" The king joked, causing Zelda to giggle.
"I only did what I had to do." said Link
"No you didn't. Anyone else in your position would have fled this land. Your courage surpasses even the greatest of the Hylian Knights."
"Thank you sire." said Link pleased with the king's compliment
"Umm excuse me? Your Majesty?" Saria spoke up, the first of the sages besides Impa to speak.
"Yes my dear?" The king said kneeling to meet the small Kokiri girl who had spoken.
"Not to sound disrespectful, but I think we should return to our homes soon. Our people are probibly worried about us."
King Daphnes looked at the sky. It was indeed getting late and night would fall in a few hours.
"Hmmm... you are probibly right." He admited
With that they all walked out to the now repaired drawbridge that connected Castle Town to Hyrule Feild, and parted ways. Link was agianst it at first but Zelda finally convinced him to return to the forest with Saria, so he could return home for some time, and explain to the Kokiri what had occured.
Link looked back at Zelda and winked. "You know... I still havent officially proposed to you yet, my love." He said with a smile.
"You know I'd never forgive you if you forgot that." Zelda teased him. Saria giggled.
Link laughed slightly himself at that Zelda's sarcasm 'you gotta love her...' he thought to himself as he and Saria started off to return to Kokiri Forest
