Biography

Pata Hikari is one of NC's most popular writers. I first encountered his work when he submitted the epic Tales of a Lost Kokiri which portrayed a great relationship between Link and Saria and the friendships they share with Zelda, Malon and several great original characters. He's also done some hilarious short stories including my favourite A Simple Game and What Happens When A Kokiri Hits Puberty?. Be sure to check out NC's library for the full collection of his work.

  • Quick Q&A

    1. So most importantly, how did you get into the Legend of Zelda?

I believe it started with me seeing Link in Super Smash Bros, shortly after that I began looking up stuff on the Zelda series, then I managed to snag a copy of Link's Awakening, and, well, I was hooked. Now I own every game in the series.

    2. And what's your favourite game in the series?

Hmm... I'd have to say a three way tie between Link's Awakening, Majora's Mask, and Wind Waker. All three of these games have a subtle, darker storyline. They allow me to think about what I'm doing, and the plots over all are rather deep. My three favorate Zelda characters though, oddly enough, don't come from these games. Saria, Malon, and Maple.

    3. Why did you choose The Legend of Zelda to devote so much of your creative energy to?

Because it was lucky enough to get my ideas written down first? I had tons of ideas for fanfiction stories, I managed to actually put down the first chapter for Tales of a Lost Kokiri though, because of that I started to develop the Zelda world, and before you know it I'm putting most of my energy into it.

    4. What are the main influences for your work?

In terms of style I'd have to say the most influental writers for me are Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchet, oddly enough. Their conversational style can be seen in my works, where the narrator slightly "speaks" to the reader without being a character of its own. Also anime has been a slight influence, I imagine my works playing out like an animated show, it helps me visualize things better. Also, my action scenes, with wild, over the top fights, show a clear sign of being influenced by series like Bleach.

    5. What is your favourite piece of work you've done, and why?

That's like asking me to pick my favorite child! D= Every written work of mine has been a joy to write. I really can't pick favorites because every one has had something I like about them.

    6. Who is your favourite character to write/draw, and why?

Again, asking me to pick my favorite child. ^^; I like all my characters, each one has something that makes me smile when I pen their actions. Link's lack of tact, Saria's kindness, Malon's cheerfulness, Maple's short temper, Shadow's quiet hesitance, Kasuto's mix of pride and humility, Zelda's loyalty... gah, I'm rambling. ^^; Suffice to say that I can safely say that every character is my favorite to write.

    7. Are there any fan writers/artists that you admire?

Other fanfiction writers have been an influence on me, the oldest fanfic influence would be Arxane (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/44213/) followed by Sonic fanfiction author Netraptor (http://www.netraptor.org). A more recent influence would by my friend Dan Heron (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/482555/) I even borrowed a few concepts from him, with permission of course. ^^

    8. How did you find North Castle?

    I was searching for fanworks focused on Marin, when I discovered Wizera's Secrets series, hosted on this site. I read through quite a bit of the libary... I still kinda need to read more. ^^;

    9. Why did you decide to post your work at North Castle?

Exposure is the only form of compensation a fanfiction writer gets. I figured that having my works posted on a nice site like this wouldn't hurt at all. =)

    10. Finally, any plans for the future regarding your work?

Plenty. I have, as of now, nearly two dozen characters with stories to tell. Not only that, but a lot of stuff needs to be done. I have the ending of my series planned out... what are my plans? Well, that's a secret. ;)
